The Van der Grinten Gallery (originally known as ‘Büro für Fotos’) was founded in Cologne over 25 years ago by the German-French couple Franz van der Grinten and Nadia Krycève. It quickly developed into an important hub for exchange at the intersection of photography and art, and gained recognition beyond Germany’s borders thanks to its participation in international art fairs. Over time, close relationships have developed with Elger Esser, Leiko Ikemura, Lorenzo Pompa, Ruth Marten, Roy Mordechay, Elina Brotherus and Rikako Kawauchi, who have helped to further develop the gallery’s programme – which encompasses photography, painting, drawing, works on paper and sculpture – and to enhance its artistic quality. Now, in September 2026, with our move to Düsseldorf – inspired by the city’s dynamic cultural policy and rich art scene – we are opening a new chapter in the gallery’s history in the vibrant Flingern gallery district. The exhibiton with which we are opening our new premises also marks one of the future focus of our programme: Valérie Belin, one of the most significant French artists of her generation. Galerie Van der Grinten will therefore devote greater attention to presenting and promoting artists from France in future.
