Van der Grinten Galerie

History

The German-French couple Franz and Nadia van der Grinten opened the Van der Grinten Gallery in Cologne in 2002. Their program includes photography, painting, drawing, works on paper, sculpture by German and international young and established artists.

In the summer of 2016, Van der Grinten Galerie moved into its new space in a beautiful, historically striking Bel Étage in the center of Cologne. These extraordinary exhibition spaces resemble a private salon and create a very personal atmosphere of calm and concentration in which visitors feel at ease and which has become a trademark for Van der Grinten Galerie. There, one is invited in a special way to an exciting dialogue between historical and contemporary.

Profile

The gallery’s artistic program is grounded in the early experience of being consulted by private and institutional collections. By many collectors and visitors, the stringency of the gallery’s program is itself received like a collection, which in its wholeness suggests relationships and dialogues of individual artistic positions.

Independent of the art market mainstream, Van der Grinten Galerie’s highly selective program creates a glimpse into contemporary art concerned with the sensitive, the perceptual, the undertones of the soul, and questions of humanism.

Collectors like to describe the gallery program as »surprising,« »poetic,» »subtle,» or even the term »new sensuality.«
